Pua `Ôhai - by John K. Almeida

Aloha ku`u pua `ôhai
Loa`a i ke onaona lima

`Elima a`u kai a`i `ike
Ma ka moana mai o ka hema

Hemahema `oe i ka`u `ike
I kou miki `ole iho kâwele

Ua pau ka lepo i `ane`i
Ke ko`ana wai o ka `âkôlea

Pâ mai ka makani hu`ihu`i
Kokololio a`i ko piko

He piko hana `olu kêia
He `uilani `oe ke `ike

Ua `ike aku nei paha `oe
I kahi wai a`o Hanaka`uwali

Ha`ina `ia mai ka puana
No ka pua `ôhai ke aloha

Ha`ina hou mai ka puana
I loa`a i ke onaona lima

`Ohai Ali`i

Beloved is my `ôhai blossom
Held in the tenderness of the hand

I have seen five seas
Within the ocean to the south

You seem unskilled to me
Not moving quickly to use a towel

The dirt has been removed from this place
The fern encircled pool

The cold wind is blowing
It gusts, reaching the core of your being

I am a pleasing companion
Who will fascinate and entice you

You must have become familiar
With waters of Hanaka`uwali

Let the refrain be told
Beloved is the `ôhai blossom

Let the refrain be told again
Held in the tenderness of the hand
