Source: The composer, Lizzie Alohikea was the first wife of Alfred Alohikea and a singer with the Royal Hawaiian Band. She composed this in the 1920's to celebrate the arrival of radio broadcasts in Hawaiʻi. The third verse is a reference to the soap operas that were very popular.
