ʻO ka hīnano o Puna kuʻu liʻa
E lauwiliwili ai kaʻiʻiʻni
Nipo ninipo hoʻi i ke aloha
Ka lehua haʻalewa lā i ke kai

ʻO ke kai nehe mai i ka uluhala
E hoʻohenoheno nei kuʻu nui kino
No Puna ka makani Moaniʻala
E hali hali ana i kuʻu haʻehaʻe

ʻEnaena Puna i ke ahi a pele
ʻUʻina laka huaʻinaʻi Puʻu ʻŌʻō
Puʻō ke ahi lapalapa i luna
Punohunohu i ke ano ahiahi

Haʻina ʻia mai ana ka puana
No ka hīnano o Puna paia ʻala
Hʻaina hou mai ana ka puana
No ka hoa lūlana moe i ke ala

The hinano of Puna is my desire
Twisting my emotions
Yearning, longing for love
Is the lehua swaying by the sea

The rustling sea by the hala grove
Gently caresses me
The Moani'ala wind hails from Puna
That carries my dear affections

Puna glows in Pele’s fire
The gushing lava crackles at Puu 'O‘o
The blazing fire blazes up
Her smoke billows in the evening

Thus the story is told
For the hinano of Puna with fragrant walls
The story is told again
For my peaceful friend who lies on the path
