Love for my land,
Beautiful Maui
Land famed for its beauty
When I call to you, please answer
Respond O Maui!

This land that I love
Maui, famous land
You are filled with wondrous beauty
When I call to you, please answer
Respond O Maui!

A place of refuge, beautiful and good
A place of solitude
A pearl of the Pacific
When I call to you, please answer
Respond O Maui!

Told now is the song
Beautiful Maui
Land famed for its beauty
When I call to you, please answer
Respond O Maui!

Source: Kealiʻi Blaisdell's CD "Malumaluakua". This haku mele, written 09-02-08, is about the changes of Maui due to the over development and over crowding of foreigners. Maui, a once beautiful island and capitol of the Hawaiian Kingdom, is now overrun with tourists, illegal immigrants and over development that is pushing out the kanaka maoli from their homes and lands. Kealiʻi is crying out to Maui to protect her kanaka maoli people in this mele. Translated by Kealiʻi Blaisdell. Copyright 2008, Kealiʻi Blaisdell
